It is interesting how you can become so attached to your computer, so quickly. Mondays I usually run home from work to find Elizabeth's email. This week was a federal holiday, and there was no email. I was so glad to come home on Tues. to an email. I have never been so anxious to check my email in all my life. I can't imagine what it was like for my mom who only got letters infrequently.
Hello to my favorite peanut gallery in the world!
How are you all doing? I would hope that you are all doing well and that life is treating you favorably.
Life has been crazy-mega-foxy-awesome-hot!
We ate dinner with Sister Baca Monday night. Yummy yum! I like eating dinner. And I really like salad and all the weird and interesting ways it can be put together. We had an Asian salad with her. Cabbage, almonds, raw ramen noodles and some kind of dressing. It was really tasty. Granny probably knows how to make it I would guess. Anyways, Sister Baca has three teenage sons whose names all start with A. They are the coolest kids ever. They are very reserved, but they are fun to be around. The oldest is Nathan's age and the youngest is Ben's age.
Anyways, So every other we have Mormon.org. I like Mormon.org. We get to watch fun church videos and find new ways to use them in our teaching. I watched a couple that were really cool.
All of last week Sister Zvirzdin was putting together her college app for nursing school. It was crazy, but it was fun.
I've been doing quite a bit of tracting (personal contacting) this week. It's fun. Some days I feel like a salesman... Nathan and Ben, y'all should be good at tracting because of your experience selling popcorn.
Wednesday was fun. We got to play Book of Mormon Scrabble with Sister Cash. (BOM Scrabble is basically normal scrabble limited to words found in the Scriptures.) We had a good time. We also visited with some members who are big into Rodeo. They were telling us all about riding bulls, horses and sheep. They also told us about something called Bull Poker. You'll have to look it up because I don't know enough about it to describe it to you. It sounds pretty insane and slightly fun though - a true adrenaline rush! We also started participating in the Young Women's activities in the ward. The Buffalo Ridge young women's group is really small for a ward. (Most of them are laurels, and the rest are less active.) So we are going to show our support and love for them.
Thursday, we had the opportunity to do some service at the Habitat for Humanity. It was fun. We cleaned the brake room and then organized (tried to) a shelf of home improvement items. It was crazy because half of the stuff we had no idea what it was. And the rest didn't fit where it's like items were living.
After our service on Thursday, we went to a Relief Society Activity. It was cool. We learned about food storage, freezer meals and re-purposing. I liked the bit about re-purposing. The rest of it was a little over my head just because I am a missionary and so I don't have the time, space or money to do the other two. But I did get the little 12 month step by step food storage starter that I will send back with my journal.
Friday was one of my fat days of the week. I had ice cream twice along with some skittles and a brownie. (ps. it's hard to eat ice cream when no one else is eating it with you.) Anyways.... Friday night through Saturday, we did exchanges, so I worked with Sister Grammer while Sister Z worked with Sister Fillmore. It was so much fun! It was also really nice to see a different perspective on missionary work.
Friday day, Sister Z and I met the Belnap family. They are so cool! He is military and works for Domino's. And she is a mother of two (both under 5), wife and full time online student. WHAT?!?! She is like super woman in the flesh. I love her! We enjoyed ourselves immensely as we got to know her better!
Saturday I worked all day with Sister Grammer. She is great. She has been out on her mission for just barely 4 months. We tracted for two or so hours after we had lunch. We knocked an entire street, and we found a lot of potential investigators. It was great! We met a few stoners which was fun and very terrifying. But they are very friendly and super inviting....to the uncomfortable level. It is a good experience to know that they are children of God completely blinded by the things of the world. And it is good to know how much more they need the gospel!
We had a good lesson with Emma, but Chris wasn't able to be with us. We also had a fun dinner with Sister Estes. She is probably one of my favorite sisters in the ward. She has the coolest stories ever! While we were at dinner she told us all about her work trip to Alaska - as well as her stow away departure. She is so cool!
Sunday, I spoke in Sacrament meeting. I spoke on Alma 32. It was really good. I definitely know that prayers are answered. (Lets just say that after much struggling, studying, pondering and re-studying, I finally wrote my talk Sunday Morning during personal study.) It wasn't a terrible talk either. I was glad! Nathan, how many people were at the Brand New Year Fireside? Because there were at least 150 in church on Sunday to hear me speak. Talk about terrifying!
Sunday was a good day. We had dinner with the Vuyk family (pronounced Vike). They are amazing! They have five boys and one girl. The oldest is - again - Nathan's age. He's a good kid. He goes out with the Elders quite a bit which is great! Ona, I think you'd like their family. We had waffles for dinner. I love waffles! Can I just say that? I really like pizza too. I would eat it every day....not literally, but you'd think so from last weeks dinners. I definitely know which pizza's are good, better and best to eat, though. And I am so eternally grateful for the members who feed us! Like I said, I love pizza. So I was so excited to eat my fill of it, and I can't wait to eat it again.
Yesterday was p-day, but because of the holliday, the library was closed, so this is why you are receiving an email on Tuesday instead. (I promise I'm not being naughty and braking rules..... at least not on purpose. Just kidding! I never brake rules who do you think I am - my mothers child?) Sorry, I don't know where that came from. An odd sarcastic side of Sister Bryans. Hmmmmm... I think I'll keep that one contained for a while.
Back to the events of a successful preparation day. We walked the mall and visited Plato's Closet which was fun. I bought some nerd glasses with stars on them for $2.00. I'm so cheap. They're fun to wear too. I'll have so send a picture next p-day. We also wrote letters. So family beware - there is a letter coming for you with some messages to deliver to other people. I don't have any stamps, so I need to get some before I can write any more snail mail.
We also played Apples to Apples with our zone. It was a lot of fun. I think I had the most green apple cards by the time we finished playing. My favorite green apple card win was moist . I won with having a baby. I also made the Elder judging gag. It was great! To finish up our p-day we ate dinner and visited a few families to see how they were doing. One family we are going to have a game day with on Saturday. The other we will be eating with next week. Yesterday was relaxing and successful in all definitions of the words.
I've made it my goal to read Jesus the Christ by my 1/2 way point. It is really good. I am learning so much. I have also started reading the Bible. I love the stories. I am only in Genesis, but it's awesome!
This morning we had a really successful lesson with Kevin. We answered some of his questions and read with him Alma 18. The spirit was definitely present during our lesson. It was really cool. We brought future missionary Sister Dobson with us. It was fun. And today is such a beautiful day - 55 degrees outside and sunny with gusts of wind as usual!
Tonight we teach the Archuleta Family and a potential investigator named Mike. I'm excited!
Well, I think that's it for now. I hope my letters aren't too long and boring. Let me know if you have questions or desire something else from my letters, and I'll do my best to change them to make them better and more of what you want to hear.
Love,
Sister Bryans
Ps. Did you know that the Lion King is referenced in the Bible? Read: Genesis 13:14-15
I loved reading Jesus the Christ and I too learned so much about my Savior. I would encourage everyone to take the time to read this book. I think I will read it again, its about time.
