ALOHA!
So
the title above is misleading. It does snow here in Colorado. In fact,
it snowed yesterday. And it was quite cold too. I was not a fan. But
most of the snow has all melted away which is a HUGE blessing. I am so
grateful!
So what interesting and entertaining things can I share with you from this weeks missionary experiences?
Hmmm.....
On
Tuesday, we went on exchanges with the Sisters in Bertheoud. And I was
the lucky one who got to work in the Bertheoud area. Hahaha... that was
an adventure.
My exchange companion was Sister Tafengatoto.
She's from Tonga. And because of that, she cannot drive. So I got to be
the designated driver. I do not like driving! I am terrible at it.
Actually, I'm not that terrible at it. I just have no idea how to drive
anymore. I haven't driven for 6 months. It's ridiculous. But we
survived, and we had a splendid time working together.
Wednesday,
we had interviews with President Brown. It was a good experience. We
talked about weekly planning. (Because, I'm really bad at it. In fact,
I'm really bad at all kinds of planning. That's why when people ask me
what my plans are for after the mission I tell them I have absolutely no
idea. Like.... negative idea.) So we talked about becoming a better
weekly and nightly planner. And I'm trying. It's just tough. Hopefully, I
will master the technique quick though.
We learned some
exciting news on Thursday night. As of April, our mission is being
expanded to include Casper and Riverton Wyoming Stakes. WOAH! I know
right. We're really excited!
Friday was really good. We met
with our investigator Lisa. And she told us that she wanted to come to
church. (We weren't sure if that would ever happen.) YAHOO!!! So we're
super stoked for that. And she gave the most beautiful prayer I have
ever heard. The Spirit was really strong. I hope she felt it!
I also finally know what Weed smells like. And it is nasty!
And,
I also know that whatever Spanish I do know is completely useless when
eating dinner at Spanish speaking members homes. But their cooking is
delicious, so it all worked out in the end. (I LOVE TAMALES!)
Saturday was an adventure:
STORY
TIME!!! Quick! everyone! Pull up your blankets and pillows and climb
into your pajamas and pay really close attention. (There will be a quiz
afterwards.)
The scene begins with two sleeping sister missionaries. The clock strikes 3, and all is quiet.
Sister Bryans gasps and wakes up to see the lamp from the nightstand falling over onto Sister Nolin.
Sister Nolin wakes up and reaches her hand out behind her to feel the lamp shade.
It takes a moment for the two sister missionaries to register what happened.
And
then Sister Nolin gets up out of bed and puts the lamp back upright on
the nightstand. And tries to turn it on. She remembers it is unplugged,
so she comes over to plug it in.
"What happened?" asks Sister Bryans
"I have no idea." Sister Nolin replies.
The light is now on and Sister Nolin is sitting up in bed.
Sister
Bryans still laying in bed half asleep reaches her arm out to try and
touch the lamp. Her fingers are inches away. "I don't think it was me."
She says as she covers her face with her arm.
Both Sister
Missionaries think about it for a bit more before Sister Bryans rolls
over and says to Sister Nolin, "Just go to bed. I was probably thrashing
around. Just go to bed. It was nothing."
The light goes out, and the Sister Missionaries resume their sleeping status.
The
next morning we role played the lamp falling over. What did we learn?
The lamp is pretty sturdy, so it would have taken a pretty great force
to knock it over. Also even if Sister Bryans was thrashing around, there
would be no way for her to hit the lamp. She tested that during the
night - remember?
Sunday was a really great day too. We
got to witness the gifts of tongues and interpretation while members in
the ward got up to share their testimony.
(I don't know if I've told you, but we have a handful of Spanish speaking members in our ward that require a translator.)
So
anyways, quite a few of the Spanish speaking members in our ward got up
to share their testimonies, and it was really neat to see how many
individuals got up and assisted in the work of translation. I love the
gospel so much! No matter where you are or what language you speak it is
the same! And the Spirit can be felt.
Well, I think this
about covers all for this week. I hope you all enjoyed the weekly
update and learned something special that you can apply into your life.
I love you all!
Love,
Sister Bryans
