Dear Family, Friends and Avidly Interested Readers Near and
Far!!!
Welcome to another chapter of the life and times of your
favorite Sister Missionary - Sister Bryans. Being brought to you by yours truly.
*Loud clapping and cheering is welcome here*
First off...I just finished off another Journal. Yeah big surprise. This is
number 2 and it has only been just under 6 months. 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!
Yippee-yayhoo-huzzah!
So let me tell you what I remember from this past week.
Tuesday was amazing! We had a great lesson with Dot. Have I ever told y'all
about the power of the Book of Mormon? Yeah, it exists. We have been
reading 3rd Nephi with her, and she has been to church for the past three
Sundays. Happy Days! We also ate dinner with the Gilbert's. I love their family.
<3 Although, my favorite part dinner was when I was sneak attacked by their
son Josh. He had gotten up from the table, and I assumed that he was putting his
dishes away or going into the other room where his brother was. Yeah no... he
attacked my with a hug and scared me to death. It was awesome! Although, he did
get into some trouble for it. "Don't scare the Sister Missionaries! You need to
ask before you give them hugs." - Brother Gilbert. And we also had a fun lesson
with the Wardle family as we began studying from Preach My Gospel with
them. Did I tell you that Preach My Gospel is another of my favorite
books?
Wednesday was filled with miracles! We had dinner with the Vuyk family. Did
I tell you they are one of my favorites, and I love them so very very much?!
They are housing one of the famous musketeers. I'll let you all guess since I
don't know how to spell his name. *Sorry!* There family is the best though. So
full of energy. I love it. Their oldest Porter is graduating this year and
almost has all of his mission papers completed and submitted. I'm so excited for
him!
We also had a really awesome lesson with Shellamae. She is progressing so
well. She will be baptized on June 3rd at 10am. I am super excited! While we
have been teaching her the last lessons this past week, she has been taking
notes, so she will be able to remember. Talk about a sincere desire. I am so
excited for her!
Also on Tuesday, we had a miracle of a baptism brought to us by the Buffalo
Ridge Elders. They were blessed to being teaching a man named Orri. So here is
the story: [Are you wearing your seat belts, helmets and prepared with a tissue
box?]
Once upon a time there was a man named Orri that was working in Cheyenne
with a construction company. While working, he became really good friends with
three members of the church and began asking questions. His questions led him to
come to church with them. After attending church for a few Sundays, he met Stake
President Brown. President Brown in is spiritually, missionary minded way asked
Orri if he had met with missionaries yet to which Orri said no. So President
Brown invited him home for dinner and to take the lessons. On Sunday, they met;
on Monday, they met, and on Tuesday, they met, and Orri received the lessons.
Wednesday - 8:30p, Orri was baptized and received the Holy Ghost to become one
of the newest members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On
Thursday, he and the construction company had moved to another area in Wyoming.
Miracle Status Achieved!
On Thursday, I got to work in Laramie, WY with Sister Hebertson while our
companions went to Loveland, CO for a missionary leadership meeting. It was a
lot of fun. Working in a YSA ward in the summer is really hard though. Most of
what ends up being done is status checking people.
Friday was the best day ever! We decided to set a goal to find a family of
5 to share the gospel with and to commit to be baptized at the end of June. This
is helping us involve the members more because everyone we talk to receives news
of our goal and the invitation to pray to help us find them. We talked with
Bishop about it over lunch. And he seemed to think it was a good idea, but he is
definitely lost as to how to help us. Oh well, that is where the Spirit comes in
to teach and testify.
We also had an awesome ward activity. It wasn't as well attended as we
would have hoped, but it was still a lot of fun. Elder Stone clogged for us all
and it was SUPER DUPER AMAZING!!!! I might have it on video. *wink* He was so
popular that night that they asked him to do an encore. He is very good. We also
had people sharing their musical talents, their skit performance talents, and
Sister Christensen and I even got succored into something. We answered tough
Mormon questions on such topics as: green jello with carrots, the Horns we
Mormons have and Jesus Smith. (Yes he is a legit person. Apparently there are
peoples in the world [specifically those without a Christian background] who
combine Jesus Christ and Joseph Smith into one person when they think of
Mormons. Who knew, right?)
It was so much fun!
On Saturday, we were able to attend the baptism of Summer. She is a 9 year
old girl in the Frontier Ward. She is super cute. We also taught a few lessons
and had a delicious dinner of Hawaiian Meatballs. It was yummy.
Sunday was also really fun. We taught Sister Jensen and two of her
grandsons. They are such a sweet family. We talked a lot about missionary work
because one of the boys just graduated from High School. And because that was
the theme for our sacrament meeting. FELLOWSHIP = MISSIONARY WORK! (Just
Saying!)
Overall this week was really good!
And now for my favorite story of the email.
Once, a long, long time ago somewhere deep in the heart of a Monday in
Cheyenne, WY. There were a pair of Sister Missionaries who were friends with a
family by the last name of Olsen. They have a granddaughter living with them
named Ansleeta. Now, Ansleeta wanted to show them something from the backyard,
so the Sister Missionaries went outside to see what it was. It turned out to be
a plant by the name of verbascum thapsus also known as the Indian toilet paper
plant. Ansleeta was kind enough to give each of the sisters a leaf and tell them
all about how it could be used as TP in the wilderness if mother nature called.
So the sisters missionaries took their leaves graciously and left to go meet
with the Elders to talk about a missionary opportunity for the ward. Upon
meeting the Elders, the Sisters gave them the Indian toilet paper leaves and
proceeded to tell them about their uses. And the Elders thought it would be a
great idea to try it. So not long after leaving their presence, the Sisters
received a phone call asking how to dispose of the used leaves. And shortly
after the phone call came a text asking what to do for a red rash that had
appeared on the Elder's rear. The Sisters were kind enough to laugh
uproariously, and also to offer some suggestions for how to medicate an allergic
reaction to the plant so unfortunately found on the Elder's bottom. I am sad to
say that this story is true and that the condition of the poor Elder is still
unknown.
I hope that this email made y'all laugh, cry, poop and smile.
LOVE YOU!
