Hello to All!
Can you believe that June is almost over? One more week - WHAT?!?! I know
it's crazy.
So what all happened this week. I'm not even sure because this week has
been uber tough. We handed one of our investigators over to the Elders because
we hope they will have better luck with encouraging him to progress than we have
had. His name is Duane and he was found by Sisters Johnson and Budge before I
got into Fort Collins. He was working at Catholic Charities when they met him.
He seems interested, but because he is a single guy living with a bunch of other
single guys, it makes it really difficult to teach him. Anyways - so that is the
big reason why we handed him over to the Elders.
So now our investigator pool is down to a select few that are at a stand
still with making the decision to be baptized or not. (Sometimes Agency is a
pain in the rear.)
We've done a lot more walking than usual this past week. We're trying to
conserve miles and make sure that we don't go over. I think we'll be fine. We
are at just over 700 and we have 1000 to use in the month. I think we'll be
good.
So here is my recap of the week:
Monday was pretty darn legit. Sister Johnson beasted some kid at chess that
we met at the Library. I was impressed beyond belief. I was also very proud to
be her companion. His name was Caleb and he lives in a teeny tiny mountain town.
But he was in Fort Collins for some social time. We also watched some really
corny 1980's Mormon movies while we finished laundry and I wrote letters.
Tuesday was exciting. We were in Greeley all day for Zone Conference which
was fun. Although, some of the training topics were a little like - ummm.....I'm
a missionary right now I don't care to think about this at present or ever. We
opened learning all about Eternal Marriage and how the gospel blesses families.
The Eternal Marriage topic was where I was like I don't get it. Then we had a really rushed evening full of
delicious dinner, a meeting with Bishop and a visit with the Vail's - a new
family in the ward.
Wednesday was a mess. We had a funeral for a sister in the ward - it was
very awkward especially since I had never met the woman when she was alive. Oh
well, that just means I'll meet her in the Eternities. We also went to the
cemetery too. While we were there we began to check out some of the surrounding
grave sites. There were a lot of Hispanics and a few Jewish plots, but the best
was when we found a gravestone for Baby Batman. I thought that was beyond awesome, so
I had to take a picture of it. We also went to mutual that night. We helped
deliver some cookies to a less active family in the ward and also played
volleyball and basketball. It was a lot of fun which is saying something because
I usually never play any kind of sport that uses a ball.
Thursday was an adventure, and we had three really good lessons with some
of the members in our ward. Everything we talked about and shared was exactly
what they needed to hear to help them spiritually and in the realm of member
missionary work. We also got sunburned pretty badly. White girl + Sunshine = the
tan of a lobster. Needless to say, I have been fighting
the residual of the sunburn since then. (Wearing clothes is a concept that I
don't approve of right now.)
Friday was a very long day! We did service at Catholic Charities until
lunch time. Then we came home for lunch and studies and weekly planning. After
which we went to dinner and searched for some unknown members. Most of which
were either not home or had moved. What a blast that was!
And Saturday, we began our day by painting at Sister O'hare's. (THANK YOU
MOM for teaching me how to paint and allowing me to help when I was growing up.)
After we finished painting she took us out to eat at Qdoba. And then we rushed
to a lesson with Duane which fell through - another reason we are handing him
over to the Elder's. We were really frustrated. So we went to Culvers since we didn't have a dinner that night.
And then went home, changed clothes and listened to some talks that Emily gave
us. That day was not very productive. Ooops.
Sunday was better. We received a referral from the White family. And we had
a billion meetings in the morning before church. They also called a new Ward
Mission Leader for us to work with: Brother Merkley.
And now you find me here - in Monday!
So the final words I will leave are the words of my favorite Elder serving
in Brasil at present:
"I think it's harder to
feel [the Spirit], not because He's not with us, but because we're used to it,
or the spiritual high. Like a fish in water, it doesn't know it's wet until it
leaves the water." (Elder Brian Ross)
As life
becomes a struggle, we doubt whether the Spirit is really present in our lives
guiding our every action, so we must remember that he is always with us. There
are just some days that we either push him away or we forget that he is
there.
Love
Always,
Your Sister in
Zion
