Another Day, Another Week.
Good Morning to the avid readers of the weekly chronical: My
Life as a Missionary.
In this weeks episode, you will learn about black eyes, more
time, the fast food fast, a four hour car repair, being heavy, superheros and
so much more. So without further ado, I proudly present "your
dinner."<---said in a sassy french voice. (Name that movie!)
On to all seriousness though...
Monday, we met with Sister Marchant to teach her the 5th and
final lesson. It went really well. We were able to work through the
distractions of family and finally made it through the lesson with the final
question being, "So what are your thoughts on Baptism?" To which we
the answer was along the lines of: "I need more time to think and ponder
about the decision to be baptized. I want to make sure that if I'm baptized,
it's an all or nothing thing. I don't want to pull a 'I will, I am, but...'
situation." MORE TIME.
Tuesday, we took our car in to have some maintenance work
done on it. It needed an oil change, tire rotation and brakes checked. All of
which were fixed and took approximately 4 hours. During which time,
we walked around a "shopped." We also met a Hispanic man
trying to get to Downtown Denver. Boy was that an adventure. He spoke but a few
words in English, so trying to communicate with him was really hard. We called
the Bus Station to see what he needed to do, then we called Sister Martinez who
is currently in Greeley and had her speak Spanish to him. She was very
helpful!!! So hopefully he found his way down. *crosses fingers* I felt so
useless knowing absolutely zero Spanish. We also group taught the first
lesson to/with the Vail family. I love them so much; they are great! It was a
really cool experience.
Wednesday, we met with Dana our investigator. Poor lady! She
has two black eyes. We read from the Book of Mormon with her and told her about
the addiction recovery class on Thursdays. Hopefully we can get her to the
class soon. She's not comfortable going out yet because of her face. I don't
blame her.
Thursday was weekly planning and a two hour dinner with the
Wakkinen's. I think I have now met three of the eleven or so Wakkinen families
in the world. It's pretty fun. Teancum is probably my favorite Wakkinen. He is
10 and super funny. The whole family needs the gospel so bad. I wish they would
be active/convert.
Friday, we worked at Catholic Charities. It was a lot of
fun. We got to help cut up some fruit that I can't name right now because my
brain isn't working. It has a pit, but it is not a peach or a plum. Anyways -
we cut them all up, but most of them were rotten, so we were trying to salvage
what we could. It didn't work out so well. We also served lunch which is always
fun. "Crackers? Sandwhich?" You meet the most interesting people at
Catholic Charities.
That night, we were able to visit with the Davis Kids and
Sister Lozano. They are SO GREAT! I love them all. They were building a fort
and playing superheros, so they gave Sister Johnson and I a mask to wear. So we
are now MISSIONARY SUPERHEROS! We looked pretty legit. Then we watched this
video with them: http://www.mormonchannel.org/video/mormon-messages?v=2609209978001
It was fun to see the kids listening and reacting to the video. They are
another family that needs to be active. You can see how much it would benefit
the family, yet.....
Saturday, we were all over the place trying to find people
that are on the ward's unknown list. We were to eat dinner at the O'hare's
house, but the flooring project they were working on was taking a lot more time
than they expected, so we were able to help out with that. They were trying to
"clip in" the flooring pieces without the floor shifting and without
the seams coming apart, so we were asked to stand on the floor and be heavy
while they put it together. That was an adventure because neither Sister
Johnson nor I weight all that much - especially 100lb Sister Johnson. We went
with Emily and got pizza from Little Ceasers and ate it in her car because the
couches were in the kitchen while they put flooring in the living
room.
And Sunday, we met with Dana again. We officially taught her
lesson one all about the Restoration of the Gospel. We brought Sister Fenton
with us, and she helped out SO much. I see great potential in Dana if we can
just help her find release and freedom from the addictions she is dealing with.
She is excited to get into the gospel especially the Book of Mormon. Actually
what's really cool is that her Boyfriend Grant is interested too. He took the
first copy of the Book of Mormon that we gave Dana. He also wants to go to the
addiction recovery class too. WOOH!
And so concludes this episode of My Life as a Missionary.
PS. Nathan - I received your letter. THANKS!!! I'll be
sending a reply letter soon...hopefully today - we'll see.
PPS. If you ever get the chance to listen to the song
"Israel Israel God is Calling" African version arranged by Alex
Boye... DO IT! It is SOOOOO good. We listen to it every time we get
in the car. If the speakers in our car blow out, it will be because of that
song. We also want to perform that song in the ward talent show... We'll see
though. We find out about transfers this Saturday.
LOVE!!!!
Sister Bryans
PPPS. Also, you should check out the talk by Elder Bednar. I
