This week was quite the adventure.
Tuesday
morning, the furnace in our house wasn't working for some unknown
reason, so we woke up to no heat. Thankfully it was caught quickly and
fixed by lunch time. It's also a good thing that missionaries are on the
go from 10a-9p. We got to escape from the cold house.
Wednesday
was super entertaining. Well, Wednesday morning was. We went to visit
this less active sister in our ward, and she lives out in the boonies.
So we drive all the way out there and pull onto the dirt road that leads
to her house. And when we get to her driveway, we see that there is a
cattle grate over a cement ditch.
"That looks really sharp." Sister Nolin says as she pulls the car over in front of the property.
So
we get out and walk across the cattle grate. Funny thing about cattle
grates: they are made out of triangle shaped pieces of metal, and they
have 3 inch gaps between each piece. So walking on the point of a
triangle whose neighbor is 3 inches away is tricky. (I'm sure you could
look up "cattle grates" on Google and get a much better idea of what it
looks like via a photo than I can describe to you.) Anyways, so we walk
all the way down the driveway, knock on the door and learn that this
sister is an active member of a Baptist congregation.
Oh
well, so we trek back down the driveway and get to the cattle grate and
we say to each other,"How did we cross this before? This is terrifying!"
So
Sister Nolin bravely walks back across the cattle grate, while I leap
the 3 or so foot gap across the cement ditch. (I felt super talented!
And I was super duper grateful that I didn't miss or slip and fall.)
But,
Sister Nolin and I were so full of adrenaline that we treated ourselves
to frozen yogurt and Menchies. It was a good morning.
Thursday
we had a hideously long Zone Meeting. Usually they last an hour and a
half. This meeting was two and a half hours. I was about ready to rip my
eyeballs out. It was an okay meeting. Most of the training's were very
good; the meeting was just way too long.
Service was good though. I am now a professional blanket folder!
Miracles witnessed this week:
Two
of the less active families that we visited this week shared with us
their goals for the gospel. One sister wanted to start going to church
again. YAY! And the best part about her family: they are bi-racial. So
she is Caucasian, and her husband and two of her children are
African-American. WOOHOO! I about died inside with pure delight. Her
husband has the smoothest voice I have ever heard, and he's not a
member.
The second is a single brother.
He is a recent convert from Minnesota. He has two kids and will be
getting married soon. He told us that he really wants to get his temple
recommend so he can enjoy the blessings that come from the temple. RIGHT
ON!
It's always good to hear the righteous, productive goals of another. They are inspiring.
Also,
we had dinner with the Bullough's. They used to live in Grandma's ward
before it split. They were really excited to talk to me. They said they
remembered Grandma and Mom. Couldn't really put a face to Dad though or
anyone else, and I forgot my picture or I would have showed them how old
you all are becoming.
Other than that though, the work is
moving along. We have quite a few investigators, but none of them are
really progressing. It's sad. Hopefully they will be soon. We will be
passing off one investigator to the YSA in FOCO. Wooh!
Yep yep...
I think that's it for the week.
Keep
up the good work fellow missionaries. The Lord's work is moving forward
faster than we know and if we're not on the train it's going to pass us
by.
Love,
Sister Bryans
